A new parasite is making its introduction right here in the United States. This parasite, called a rat lung worm, has been found to be living in multiple areas of Florida. They thrive in the lungs of rats and snails, and until now found only in tropical areas. This worm has moved from only tropical areas into Florida, and it has made its way to Northern Florida, causing scientists to suspect it is likely to move throughout the United States. This very dangerous worm attacks the brain of its victims, very often resulting in death or permanent brain damage. No cure is currently available since the worm has only recently arrived on U.S. soil. If you happen to visit a swimming area, if there are signs of rats or snails, avoid it. You are better safe than sorry.

Great News in the Medical World
Maybe you recall the original Star Trek episode where the doctor used a tricorder to detect medical problems. Well, you won't have to beam yourself up to use one in the near future. A small sensory device can be worn and will detect a number of conditions, including blood pressure. Because they will be mass produced, and many medical companies will introduce their own version, they are expected to be quite inexpensive.
Immunotherapies for T- cells are proving to be great for blood cancers such as leukemia. This new therapy known as CART will be tried at larger cancer centers throughout the United States. It is a form of cellular therapy which T-cells are extracted from a patient, and then treated so that cancer cells are killed off. The cells are then re-implanted in the patient. Thus far, the success rate is nearly 100%, the results speak for themselves.
Who knew? It turns out video games have actually taught us something after all. Augmented reality was the craze over the last few years, and it is now being used to assist student doctors and nurses. Apparently, nothing is as close to reality, making this the perfect solution for practicing surgery, and essentially any other medical procedures. Providing a hands-on learning experience for all medical students and nursing students, this will be the upcoming trend in medical training techniques.
Blood is something we must have to live. When there is a shortage of blood, lives can be lost. This may come to an end. Scientist now has been experimenting with synthetic blood, which is made from skin cells. The good news is, that it's working. This should be available soon, as it is currently being used in England.

Strokes are one of the more time sensitive conditions that there is. If treatment can begin within 30 minutes of the stroke onset, most often any damage can be reversed. The problem is, few people are at s hospital when they have a stroke, so odds are they will not gain treatment fast enough. Now, however, there may be a solution. Specially equipped ambulances are with everything needed to treat stroke patients immediately. These units are called MSTU, which stands for mobile stroke treatment unit. The units have the equipment needed to stop the loss of millions of neurons. This can save lives, and prevent lives from being changed due to a stroke. Experiments are being done now to determine how well the command units are working.
