5 Things You Should Always Ask About During your Preceptorship

There are quite a lot of different phases that a regular doctor is going to go through in order to get his license to practice. With this in mind, the preceptorship is one of the many requirements that students have to go through if they want to make it as professional doctors. This is a form of orientation – something to get you going towards a certain field of specialty. Of course, there are tons of things that you would want to ask about during this particular period. So, without wasting any further time, let’s take a look at the 5 things you need to ask about during this time.

  •  How to use simulators

Simulators are particularly helpful as they provide you with the chance to practice without having to cut someone open and sew him back after you are through with him. However, simulators are not exactly easy to use. With this being said, one of the best way to learn your way around the simulator is to call the nurse and let her help you out.

  •  Ask about complex procedures

There are tons of different procedures which are going to be executed on the patient. You need to ask about them individually in order to understand the consequences as well as the post-surgical treatment that you’d be responsible for. This is going to arm you with a lot of information as well as with the ability to handle a tough situation all by yourself once the time comes.

  •  Ask about classes and seminars

A lot of hospitals are going to offer periodic classes and seminars regarding the improvements of technology as well as how to properly take advantage of them. During your preceptorship, you need to ensure that you get as much information as you can in order to be able to apply it later on.

  •  Is there something about the hospital that you are curious about?

This is the time to ask anything you can think about the facility itself. With this in mind, you should prepare a thorough list of questions that you need answers to. This is going to ensure that there is nothing left for you to ask and that you make the most out of the orientation. This is the only way to extract the full value of events of the kind and to get your motivation up and running.

As you can see, there are quite a lot of things that you might want to ask during the preceptorship. The truth is, however, that everyone is going to respond to teaching differently and this need to be accounted for. If you are unable to study fast, you might want to spend quite a lot of time hitting the books after the orientation. Furthermore, the questions listed above are merely exemplary. There are tons of other things that you might want to ask about and you should, by all means, do so. If you have something in particular that you need an answer to, now is the time to go ahead and ask. This way you can ensure that you are armed with all the right information to handle your work as effectively as you can. This is going to have a long-term beneficial effect on your career.

Insomnia in Nurses

The nursing profession has more workers suffering from insomnia than any profession overall.   It's really not surprising: rotating shifts, long hours, emotionally draining days or nights, and of course the pressure of not making a mistake. It all can take its toll, and that toll may be in the form of insomnia.   Insomnia Facts Do you ever look at s sleeping baby, and think about how you wish you could sleep like that?   Babies have no daily worries. Someone always cares for their needs, so their minds are not preoccupied with “what ifs”, or consumed with thoughts of everything that must be accomplished the following day.   No wonder we can't sleep!   One of the main reasons so many nurses suffer from insomnia is that it's difficult to essentially shut the mind down.   You can physically put your body to bed, however you cannot reach in the brain, flip a switch, and turn of the mind.   Think of it like this; you get a comfortable blanket and pillow however ins
