Legitimate Everyday Essentials For Nurses

Nursing students or nurses must carry few things in their bags apart from their personal stuff. These essentials help them work comfortably and more efficiently in a medical environment where standing for a long time, handling sick and wounded people, and watching over them for long hours is a daily phenomenon and their primary duty.

It is important for a nurse to carry the most important things in order to take proper care of the patient as well as performing his or her duty successfully.

Here is a list of some common supplies that nurses carry for their comfort as well as for better performance:

Scrubs

As they need to work with ill and injured people all day long, nurses will find comfort and ease of use in scrubs. They are easy to wear, comfortable to move in, lightweight, and most importantly easy to clean, especially if they are stain-resistant.

Nursing shoes

Shoes may seem less important but the truth is, it can make a huge difference! As nurses need to work 12-hour shifts that involve standing and walking for hours on end, they must need breathable, slip-resistant, soft, and highly comfortable shoes. Shoes with hard soles may cause tremendous back pain and foot pain if worn regularly.

Medical Bags

A spacious medical bag is a useful thing for the nurses, as they need to take several tools and equipment, along with things like water bottles, smartphone or tablet, lunch box, and other essential or nonessential things.

Medical Books

Every nurse, especially those just starting out, should carry a reference or medical handbook to note down all important healthcare information so that they can make quick yet accurate decisions in their workplace. It also helps a lot when they need to take big steps in any emergency condition. Keeping a record of all useful medicines along with their potential reactions and side effects improves their working efficiency.

Stethoscope

The stethoscope is a primary piece of equipment for all nurses. There are many popular brands for nurses to choose from, and they can also choose different colors and styles.

Dressing scissors

Nurses need to cut bandages or medical tapes for dressing wounded areas or removing old bandages often. They require good quality dressing scissors to do it properly. Small stainless steel scissors with a rustproof and non-sticky surface are broadly used for this purpose as they are specially made for cutting medical materials.

Lotion and Hand Sanitizer

Nurses must keep their hands clean, moisturized, and germ-free. They need to wash their hands several times which can result in dry, cracked skin. Keeping lotions can keep hands moisturized and soft. Hand sanitizers also work well by protecting skin from contagious agents.

Penlights

Penlights allow nurses to check patients' eyes closely to see if they are in the right condition. It becomes easy to detect any cognitive abnormality e.g. pupil dilation with pen lights which eventually help the nurses to decide the right type of ailment to the patients.

Blood Pressure Monitor

Nurses should carry lightweight and portable blood pressure monitors to take a blood pressure reading of a patient. A portable monitor is useful as a nurse can take it from one room to another to check patients' heart rates or blood pressure without wasting time needed to move the heavy ones.

Watch

Nursing is such a profession that demands smooth time planning and an efficient schedule of tasks. It becomes easy when a nurse carries a watch to keep track of her activities, especially in certain areas where cell phone use is prohibited.

Insomnia in Nurses

The nursing profession has more workers suffering from insomnia than any profession overall.   It's really not surprising: rotating shifts, long hours, emotionally draining days or nights, and of course the pressure of not making a mistake. It all can take its toll, and that toll may be in the form of insomnia.   Insomnia Facts Do you ever look at s sleeping baby, and think about how you wish you could sleep like that?   Babies have no daily worries. Someone always cares for their needs, so their minds are not preoccupied with “what ifs”, or consumed with thoughts of everything that must be accomplished the following day.   No wonder we can't sleep!   One of the main reasons so many nurses suffer from insomnia is that it's difficult to essentially shut the mind down.   You can physically put your body to bed, however you cannot reach in the brain, flip a switch, and turn of the mind.   Think of it like this; you get a comfortable blanket ...
